Meenakshi Amman Temple

A vast 14-towered temple complex dedicated to the goddess Meenakshi — its gopurams are covered in thousands of brightly painted sculptures depicting gods, demons, and animals, visible from across the city.

Hall of a Thousand Pillars

Inside the temple complex, this 16th-century hall is lined with intricately carved stone pillars, each a unique sculpture — now home to a small museum of temple art and bronze idols.

Evening Temple Ceremony

Each night around 9:30pm, priests carry an image of Lord Sundareswarar in a palanquin to Meenakshi's chamber in a centuries-old ritual reenacting their divine "marriage" — a moving spectacle of drums, conches, and lamps.
