Museum of Islamic Art
I.M. Pei's final masterpiece — a geometric white limestone fortress rising from an artificial promontory on the Corniche, designed at age 91 after Pei spent six months travelling the Islamic world to find its essence. The collection of Islamic art across 1,400 years is among the finest on earth.
Souq Waqif at Night
Doha's traditional market was rebuilt in 2006 to faithfully recreate its 19th-century form — mud-rendered walls, wooden beamed ceilings, and lanes selling spices, perfumes, falcons, shisha, and the finest Arabic sweets in Qatar. It comes fully alive after 9pm.
Khor Al Adaid Desert Safari
Qatar's Inland Sea — where the desert meets a tidal inlet of the Gulf, creating 40m dunes that tumble directly into the ocean. A 4WD convoy through the dunes (included in all day-tour packages, from QR 150) ending at the water's edge with swimming is the definitive Qatar outdoor experience.
National Museum of Qatar
Jean Nouvel's interlocking disc structure — inspired by the desert rose crystal — houses Qatar's story from ancient pearling to oil discovery to global ambition. The building itself is a world-class work of architecture; the exhibitions are immersive and genuinely excellent.
Dhow Cruise on Doha Bay
A traditional wooden dhow tour of Doha Bay at sunset — the West Bay skyline, the MIA building, and the old dhow harbour from the water. Private dinner cruises run QR 300–600; public group tours from QR 70.
Lusail & World Cup Stadiums
Qatar spent $220 billion on the 2022 FIFA World Cup — visit Lusail Stadium (capacity 90,000) where the final was played, and explore Lusail City, a purpose-built smart city still growing around it. Stadium tours run QR 50–100.
