Things to do in Andaman Islands in June

1

Cellular Jail Light & Sound Show

The most powerful historical experience in the Andamans — the colonial prison where India's freedom fighters were exiled and tortured. The Sound & Light show narrates the freedom struggle through the voices of prisoners: Veer Savarkar, Batukeshwar Dutt, and others. Deeply moving. Show at 5:30pm and 7:30pm; Hindi at 7:30pm.

2

Radhanagar Beach

Consistently rated Asia's finest beach — 2km of pale white sand backed by dense tropical forest, no development within the national park boundary, turquoise water with gentle waves, and sunsets that turn the sea gold and pink. Arrive by 3pm for a swim before the 6pm closing gate.

3

Scuba Diving

The Andaman dive sites are among the best in Asia — Lighthouse at Havelock, The Wall at Neil, and Barracuda City at Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park have coral coverage exceeding 70%. The Andaman Sea clarity hits 20–30m visibility in peak season. A PADI Open Water course runs ₹18,000–24,000.

4

Bioluminescent Bay Kayaking

After dark in calm bays (best at Havelock), paddle through water that lights up electric blue with every stroke — dinoflagellates (Noctiluca scintillans) bioluminesce when disturbed. The glow intensifies on moonless nights. Tour operators run 90-minute night kayaks from ₹800–1,200.

5

Barren Island Volcano

India's only active volcano rises from the sea 140km northeast of Port Blair — a live-fire island where lava flowed as recently as 2017, accessible only by chartered boat (liveaboard dive trips pass closest). The experience of circling an erupting island from a boat is unlike anything else in India.

6

Elephant Beach Snorkelling

A 15-minute forest walk from the Havelock jetty leads to a shallow-water reef with one of the highest coral densities in the Andamans — over 50 species of coral, hawksbill turtles, and the famous Andaman clownfish (the real "Nemo"). Glass-bottom boat from ₹400; snorkel hire ₹200.
