Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
The most beautiful building in the UAE — and arguably the finest contemporary Islamic architecture in the world. 82 domes, 1,000 columns clad in floral inlaid marble, the world's largest hand-knotted carpet (5,627m², 1,200 artisans, 2 years), and a chandelier of Swarovski crystals 15m tall. Entry is free; guided tours run daily.
Louvre Abu Dhabi
Jean Nouvel's rainforest of light — a 180m perforated steel dome over a museum island, creating a "rain of light" as sun filters through 8,000 geometric star-shaped holes. The collection maps human civilisation across cultures without hierarchy — Greco-Roman alongside Arab and South Asian art. Extraordinary.
Qasr Al Watan Presidential Palace
The UAE's Presidential Palace opened to visitors in 2019 — a white marble complex of Arabian geometric architecture, housed in 300 acres of gardens. The Great Hall's brass dome (42m) and the Palace in Motion light show (evenings) are genuinely spectacular.
Ferrari World & Yas Island
Ferrari World contains Formula Rossa — still the world's fastest roller coaster (240 km/h in 4.9 seconds). Yas Island clusters three major theme parks (Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World), the F1 circuit, and marina in a single complex. A full theme-park day from $70–90.
Qasr Al Hosn Cultural Festival
Abu Dhabi's oldest building — a 16th-century watch tower and palace — hosts a major annual festival of Emirati heritage (music, crafts, poetry, falconry). Outside festival season, the fort and cultural centre are open year-round as the city's foundational history museum.
Abu Dhabi Corniche at Golden Hour
The 9km crescent waterfront with its beaches, cycling lanes, and the entire city skyline behind — best experienced cycling from Breakwater to the far end with the Grand Mosque visible across the bay. Bike rental from AED 40/hour; the beach sections are free public access.
