Ladakh is India's most extreme and extraordinary destination. A high-altitude cold desert at 3,500 metres, bordered by the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges, with a Buddhist monastery culture that feels closer to Tibet than to Delhi. Planning a Ladakh trip requires more preparation than any other Indian destination — altitude sickness, permit requirements, limited connectivity, and a short access window from June to September.
CRITICAL: Acclimatise properly. Every year tourists rush to Ladakh, skip rest days, and end up hospitalised with altitude sickness. Spend at least 2 full days in Leh before any high-altitude excursions. No alcohol. Drink 3–4 litres of water per day.
