Dubai Travel Guide 2026: Is It Worth It? (Honest Review)

Burj Khalifa, desert safaris, gold souks and sky-high brunches. But is Dubai actually worth the money? The honest guide to visiting Dubai — costs, tips and what to skip.

Dubai divides travellers more than almost any destination on earth. Some find it thrillingly futuristic and impossibly glamorous. Others find it shallow, overpriced, and architecturally soulless. Both camps are partly right. The key to enjoying Dubai is knowing exactly what it is — a monument to human ambition and capital — and planning accordingly.

Visa Information for Dubai

  • Indian passport holders: visa on arrival is eligibility-based, usually for travellers with qualifying valid US, UK or EU documentation and a passport valid for at least six months.
  • Indian travellers without qualifying documentation should arrange a UAE tourist visa in advance through an airline, authorised travel agent, UAE resident sponsor, GDRFA or ICP channel.
  • Most Western nationalities: Visa on arrival, free, 30 or 90 days.
  • Always verify current UAE entry rules before booking because eligibility, fees and permitted stay can change.

The free Dubai Fountain show is Dubai's best experience. Most tourists pay to watch from a restaurant — stand at the free outdoor terrace facing the Burj Khalifa for the identical view at zero cost.

Best Time to Visit Dubai

  • November to March: Perfect weather (18–26°C), all outdoor activities possible. Peak tourist season.
  • April and October: Shoulder season, cheaper, still manageable heat (30–35°C).
  • May to September: Extreme heat (42–48°C). Swimming pools and indoor malls only. Deeply discounted rates.
  • Ramadan: Respectful behaviour required in public. Many restaurants closed daytime. The iftar spreads at night are actually excellent value.

Dubai Budget Guide

TypeAccommodationFoodActivitiesTotal/day
Budget$35–60/night$20–35/day$20–40/day$75–135
Mid-range$80–180/night$40–80/day$40–80/day$160–340
Luxury$300–800/night$100–200/day$100–200/day$500–1,200

Dubai is expensive by Southeast Asian standards but comparable to London or New York if you stay in mid-range hotels and eat at local restaurants. The Deira area has excellent budget options and the most authentic souks. Avoid staying in the Marina or Downtown unless you have the budget to match.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dubai worth visiting in 2025?

Dubai is worth it for first-timers who want a mix of spectacular architecture, world-class food, and desert experiences. It's expensive but surprisingly accessible. The Burj Khalifa, Dubai Frame, desert safari, and the old Al Fahidi quarter offer genuinely memorable experiences. It works best as a 4–5 day trip, not a 2-week stay.

What is the best time to visit Dubai?

November to March is perfect — temperatures are 20–28°C and outdoor activities are pleasant. April and October are shoulder months (warm but manageable). May to September is brutal — 40–50°C heat makes being outside uncomfortable, though everything is heavily air-conditioned and prices drop 40–50%.

Do Indians need a visa for Dubai?

Indian passport holders can get visa on arrival only if they meet UAE eligibility rules, commonly involving qualifying valid US, UK or EU documentation and six-month passport validity. Other Indian travellers should arrange a UAE tourist visa in advance through an airline, authorised agent, UAE resident sponsor, GDRFA or ICP channel.

Is Dubai safe for tourists?

Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world for tourists. Crime rates are extremely low. The main things to be aware of: dress modestly in public spaces (not on beaches), do not drink in public (only in licensed venues), and be respectful during Ramadan. LGBTQ+ travellers should be discreet as same-sex relationships are illegal.
